What are harmonics?
Non linear loads, such as: rectifiers, inverters, speed variators, furnaces, etc. that absorb periodic non-sine wave currents from the network. Said currents are composed of a fundamental frequency component rated at 50 or 60 Hz, plus a series of overlapping currents, with frequencies that are multiples of the fundamental frequency. This is how we define HARMONICS.

The result is a deformation of the current (and, as a consequence, voltage) that has a series of associated secondary effects.

Effects of harmonics
The main effects of the voltage and current harmonics in a power system can be cited as:

·The possibility of amplification of some
·harmonics as a result of serial and parallel

·Performance reduction in generation,
·transport and energy usage systems.

·The aging of the grid insulation
·components and as a consequence,
·energy reduction.

Savings of up to 92% on the electricity bill

The light bulb can save up to 92% on the electricity bill in terms of lighting, and emits up to 70% less CO2, thanks to this electricity savings. It is inspired by the light bulb that has not burned out for over 111 years located in the firehouse in Livermore, California. Muros travelled there to study what led it to be the "eternal light bulb". Muros' company, OEP Electrics, released a light bulb onto the market with no expiration date and developed under the premise of "no built-in obsolescence".

Fighting against built-in obsolescence

Last year, Benito Muros rekindled the debate on the shelf life of products that are developed nowadays. It is what is known as "built-in obsolescence": the programming of the end of the useful life of an item so that, in a short time, it will become useless or worthless.

Since the creation and marketing of the light bulb, Muros has led the SOP Movement (Sin Obsolescencia Programada, or No Built-in Obsolescence), which promotes a new business concept based on developing products that last forever. It is a philosophy based on marketing projects that are not programmed to have a short life, but that respect the environment and do not generate waste that ends up in third-world countries. But the movement wants to go even further: its goal is to transform the current economic model, which is based on runaway consumption and speculation.

During the opening ceremony for the new factory in September, the new social and economic approach will be announced, in order to spark a movement that will lead to the revival of an economic model based on sustainability at all levels, to be called: "PROJECT FOR THE END OF BUILT-IN OBSOLESCENCE AND THE CURRENT ECONOMIC MODEL".
