The engine that drives electric mobility

Governments are working in coordination with private initiatives to foster a veritable revolution in sustainable transport systems, supporting electric mobility and reductions in traffic volume with bike and car sharing services. Institutions are using the two fundamental concepts of innovation and sustainability to re-engineer the public bicycle rental system and implement a new concept of electric mobility that allows people to get around the city in a faster, cheaper and cleaner way.

Implementing this type of vehicle reduces total traffic volume in a city by over 6% and frees up more parking spaces. At the same time, use of the same car by a large number of people brings maximum returns on its use, and considering that conventional drivers have their cars parked 95% of the time, reductions in unit fixed costs would be considerable.

It is estimated that a motorbike and car sharing service is 40% more economical than other urban transport systems, as the vehicles are rented by time and distance covered, and

mobility becomes highly flexible because pick-up and return points can be selected. It has therefore been proposed as a real alternative for short trips for private individuals and companies, who can make use of the vehicle as if it were theirs whenever needed, and who will also see the considerable financial savings to be made with this service thanks to the inclusion of insurance, maintenance and garage costs in the overall price.

In addition to this cost reduction, a fleet is offered that operates on electrical energy, which contributes to savings in fuel costs of almost 5,000 euros for every 50,000 kilometres travelled. Therefore, it is evident that energy efficiency levels of the electric vehicle are almost twice that of the internal combustion engine, which in more concrete terms means that electric motors possess efficiency levels of 60% in comparison to the 20% of petrol engines.


In short, the financial and ecological benefits to be gained by adopting these initiatives have multiplied commitments made by companies to large cities allowing motorbike and car sharing, but a change in mentality is required if citizens are to become truly aware of the need to implement shared electrical mobility services. And, interestingly enough, the crisis has had a positive effect on this issue.
